Due to the harsh processes involved in hair removal (shaving or waxing for most of us) combined with the corrosive effects of natural sweat and the chemicals involved in anti-perspirants and deoderants, our underarm skin goes through a lot. No wonder, then, that so many of us have bumpy, red or discoloured skin when it comes to summer time.

However, women are starting to take this area of their body seriously as part of their beauty regimes.

Dermatologists have seen a massive growth in the use of botox in the underarm area to prevent embarrassing sweating. Botox injections are a very effective sure for hyperhidrosis, the medical name for excessive sweating. Botox simply paralyses the sweat glands for a few months, during which time the patient is dry and confident.

Once the sweat has been cured, the condition of armpit skin can improve.

Dr Kubicka increasingly treats as many armpits as foreheads with botox. She explained to Vogue “Once you prevent the sweat, irritation reduces and you can start to treat the area seriously. I use mild peels and micro-dermabrasion to cosmetically improve the look of the skin. And if I prescribe a cream to address hyper-pigmentation, it won’t get flushed away with all the moisture”.
