Wart and Verruca Treatment

warts and verrucaeWarts and verrucae (verrucas) are unpleasant. While they may be relatively harmless, they are certainly not welcome

  • highly contagious, spread through direct or indirect contact
  • can be stubborn and resistant to treatment, taking months or years to clear up
  • embarrassing where visible
  • can be sore, uncomfortable or painful e.g. verruca beneath the foot

Home Remedies for Warts and Verrucae

A visit to the pharmacist will usually provide a few options for home treatment. Popular options include:

  • acid solution (salacylic acid), which must be applied daily, with the wart or verruca being filed down first
  • freezing treatment (spray)

Unfortunately, the home treatments can take a long time to work and are not always successful even with the most diligent application.

For stubborn warts and verrucas, professional cryotherapy is a more effective option. This involves freezing the infected area with very cold temperature liquid nitrogen.

Dr Barbara Kubicka, who specialises in cosmetic and medical skin treatments, offers cryotherapy treatment for warts and verrucae in her Belgravia practice; with no waiting lists and a calm clinic environment.
